Mustard: Its Not Just For Dinner Anymore- The Fashion Forward Guide to Fall’s Hot New Color

 

One of the most difficult tasks to accomplish on a budget is to remain current by wearing the season’s latest colors. For fall that color is mustard. Mustard is everywhere. It has found its way from the dinner table to the runway in full swing this season. The question then becomes how do I incorporate this new trend without breaking the bank? When it comes to trends, we always have options. There are some people who like to take a trend to the extreme while others like to merely dip their toes in the water. Wherever you fall on the fashion spectrum, we have the answer for you. Trends take on many forms and fashions. This season with mustard, the options are endless. Mustard is available in tops, bottoms and every form of accessory known to man. The only limitation to your style is you and how far you want to push the envelope.

The easiest and most cost-effective way to incorporate a trend is through the utilization of accessories. These items are diverse and can be purchased in some cases for less than $25. No fall wardrobe is complete without a scarf. This is an easy, low-cost fix to any wardrobe. Scarves can be fun and flirty and add a layer of interest to any outfit. Another option to incorporating  mustard into your fall wardrobe is by adding a pop of color with either a great handbag or a killer pair of shoes. The final way to utilize accessories to incorporate the new fall colors and trends into your wardrobe is by purchasing jewelry pieces in that color. A great statement necklace accompanied by an armful of bangles is always a showstopper. The most impactful way to translate these accessories into a fall look is by creating an outfit that is totally monochromatic and then adding your mustard accessories for contrast. A monochromatic look will give the illusion of height and the pop of color will ensure that all eyes are on you.

For the more fashion forward consumer, mustard can be incorporated by purchasing a mustard top or bottom. This requires more of a monetary commitment than the purchase of an accessory. These items will run you somewhere in the neighborhood of between $30 and $80 depending on the chosen piece. The best option for purchasing a bottom is to purchase a colored skinny jean. This would be the most versatile piece and the easiest one to dress up and dress down. Skinny jeans can we worn with both boots and flats and are a staple of every wardrobe. If you prefer to invest your budget in a top, then the option that you choose will be determined by the style of bottom that you own the most of. If you own more skinny styles than bootcut, then choose a flowy top that will compliment those items. If you own more bootcut items, however, then choose a crisp fitted top that can be worn with those items.

Based on the information provided, I have compiled a list of my recommendations for incorporating mustard into your wardrobe.  On my quest to incorporate mustard in my wardrobe, I found endless options to choose from.  My favorite tops were from JC Penney and New York and Company. New York and Company does a crisp button down shirt that can be worn in either an office or a casual setting. The fabric holds its shape and color even after numerous washes.  There are also numerous coordinating scarves that can be used as the pop of color for any basic fall outfit.  The Gap and Old Navy both have mannequins in their front windows styled with mustard pants. The Gap paired their boyfriend jeans with an oversized denim button down and brown shoes. Old Navy styled their mustard skinny jeans with a lacy white top and black leather jacket for a more street look. If your accessory of choice is a to die for handbag, try Steve Madden or Tyler Rhoden.  So there you have it no matter how you slice it mustard has leapt from the dinner table to the runway in a big way.
